Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU)

Benefits of TPU for inflatable docks, platforms & sea pools:

  • Durability: TPU offers higher resistance to abrasion, tears, and punctures compared to PVC. TPU is more resistant to degradation from UV rays and extreme weather conditions than PVC. This prevents the material from yellowing, becoming brittle, or cracking over time, extending the product's lifespan.
  • Strength and stability: When used with drop-stitch construction (also called Double-Wall Fabric or DWF), TPU creates a rigid and stable platform that maintains its shape underfoot.
  • Lighter weight: Inflatable docks made with TPU are generally lighter and more elastic than PVC versions. This makes them easier to transport, handle, and store. For superyachts, this means quicker deployment and less storage space required.
  • Saltwater resistance: TPU is more resistant to hydrolysis, meaning it can withstand extended exposure to saltwater without degrading.
  • Eco-friendly: TPU is a non-toxic, sustainable alternative to PVC and is considered a more environmentally responsible material for luxury goods. Unlike PVC, TPU is a non-toxic material that doesn't contain plasticizers or release harmful dioxins when incinerated. It's also recyclable, aligning with the trend toward more sustainable luxury goods in the superyacht industry.
  • Flexibility: It maintains flexibility even in colder temperatures and is easy to print on for logos or non-slip deck patterns.
